Week 7 Fantasy Football Projections: Jordan Love Leads Standouts
Matt LaMarca highlights four players standing out in our Week 7 fantasy football projections.
We’ve officially reached the one-third mark of the NFL regular season. Doesn’t time fly when you’re having fun? The sad reality is that the fantasy playoffs will be here before we know it, with the NFL postseason following shortly after. It makes gobbling up as many wins as possible over the next few weeks paramount, both for real-life NFL squads and fantasy football owners.
While we probably can’t help your favorite NFL team much, we do have some tools at Fantasy Life available to help your fantasy rosters. That includes our projections. We project the fantasy output for each player each week, which can help you identify some diamonds in the rough and fade some potential landmines.
Let’s dive into a few players that stand out in our Week 7 fantasy football projections.
Fantasy Football Projections Standouts For Week 7
Jordan Love, QB, GB
- Projection: 19.5
- Rank: QB2
After a slow start to the year, the Packers offense is starting to get rolling. They’ve tallied 54 points and nearly 750 yards over their past two contests, and they’re eighth in EPA per play during that stretch. Most of that has come from the passing attack. Love has averaged 321.5 passing yards over his past two contests with three passing touchdowns, and he’s added a fourth score on the ground for good measure.
The Packers are expected to get Josh Jacobs back this week, which will give their rushing attack a big shot in the arm. However, Love still figures to be extremely productive. That stems primarily from the matchup. The Packers are taking on the Lions, who have been a fantasy goldmine through the first six weeks. They’re dead last in EPA per play defensively, and they’re merely 29th against the pass. Add in the fact that Detroit can score points in bunches, and no team has allowed more fantasy points per game to opposing QBs.
It vaults Love all the way up to QB2 in our projections. He’s in Tier 1 at the position in our rankings, joining Drake Maye and Brock Purdy. However you slice it, he’s one of the strongest options of the week.
Zach Charbonnet, RB, SEA
- Projection: 8.0
- Rank: RB27
One of the big questions coming into this season was: how would the Seahawks replace Kenneth Walker in the backfield? Charbonnet was going to start the year on the IR, so guys like Jadarian Price, Emanuel Wilson, and George Holani were going to have to carry the slack until then. Price suffered an injury of his own, so Wilson has been the team’s primary runner over the past handful of weeks.
However, Charbonnet appears poised to return to the field in Week 7. Head coach Mike Macdonald told reporters that Charbonnet has a “good chance” of suiting up vs. the Chiefs.
That would be a positive development for Seattle. While Charbonnet isn’t Walker, he should help an offense that ranks merely 30th in EPA per rush so far this season.
How much Charbonnet will handle in his first game back remains to be seen. At a minimum, he seems likely to take over the pass-catching responsibilities. He held that role even when Walker was in Seattle, which gave Charbonnet decent fantasy viability.
Our projections have Charbonnet as a low-end RB2 or a potential flex option vs. the Chiefs. His role has the potential to grow as he gets further removed from his injury, but he already has some viability.
Omar Cooper, WR, NYJ
- Projection: 9.4
- Rank: WR29
Cooper has now played in two career NFL games, and he’s been pretty productive in both. He had a 30-yard catch on just five snaps before getting injured in Week 1, and in his return to the lineup last week, he finished with six catches, 103 yards, and a touchdown.
Cooper’s underlying utilization in that contest was solid. He had an 85% route participation, 24% target share, and 35% air yards share, and he finished as the sixth-highest-scoring receiver for the week.
While I wouldn’t expect a top-10 finish at receiver every week, there’s no reason Cooper can’t continue to produce for the shorthanded Jets’ offense. They’re currently without Breece Hall and Adonai Mitchell, leaving the team thin on playmakers.
The Jets also draw a fantastic matchup this week vs. the Dolphins. Miami ranks 31st in EPA per pass defensively, and it's a rare game where the Jets are favored. Their offense should be a bit more productive than usual, which is enough to land Cooper a spot in the top 30 at receiver.
Tyler Higbee, TE, LAR
- Projection: 8.0
- Rank: TE9
Are the Rams in a bit of trouble? The Super Bowl favorites to start the year sit at just 2-4, putting them four games behind the 49ers in the NFC West. They obviously don’t need to win the division to make the playoffs, but their path looks much more daunting than most forecasted to begin the year.
The Rams have also had a barrage of injuries to key players, with Davante Adams becoming the most recent casualty. He suffered a hamstring injury last week, which is expected to sideline him for the next 6-10 weeks.
That should allow Higbee (and the rest of the team’s tight ends) to take on a more prominent role in the passing attack. Higbee has already been solid recently, posting a top-14 finish at the position in three straight games from Week 3 through 5. He slipped a bit in Week 6, but his outlook is still clearly pointing up.
Higbee cracks the top 10 at the position in our Week 7 projections, and he’s TE11 in our consensus rankings. At a minimum, he’s an interesting option for anyone with a TE on bye (Dalton Kincaid) or a TE who has disappointed (Kyle Pitts, Harold Fannin, Mark Andrews, etc.).
